I'm back.....with a vengeance

i'm back all right - at the constant prodding of my wife, but hope to stay longer and write a few more columns before i dissapear this time around - not that it matters to anyone...!

As i'm wondering what to write a few things are swimming around in my head.....should it be cricket and what i did or didnt do at work today, about another shoddy display by the Indian team, or dig into arm chair philosophy.......so if you're reading this - please understand, if you have enough free time on your hands to search out this blog and actually read through what I've written - please do post a comment or at least help me sort out this confusion in my mind.....
Ok - here goes some serious writing - I;ve always wondered about one thing - why do we work?....and Ive tried to dig deeper and deeper into the depths of what little I know and its suprised me - everytime I think this is it - surely i cant think more than this, woosh in comes a thought like a blinding ray of light providing a new insight or another perspective.......Right now my thinking is that work is Man's invention to perpuate society and human life on this planet....the human brain is such that it has to be kept constantly occupied and physical and mental inactivity, especially something forced, helps keeps the human brain on its toes and this is crucial to mankind's survival and our only differentiator as a species.

I was watching a documentary about pygmies in Africa recently and the simple life they lead really touched a few strings in my heart and head....especially one remark by the narrator - "the pygmies only work when they need to find food and the whole community celebrates and mourns together. Everyone has time for one another and spend much of their life sitting around and talking to one another. There is no concept of time in terms of minutes, hours, days, weeks, months, even years......there is sunrise and there is sunset and life is merrily lived in between"......Contrast this to the incredible complexity we have built around our lives - we have no time for each other today, no one really talks to the their neighbours anymore, unless they need soemthing from them - each one to his own.....time, money, food, sex, l;ove, religion - everything is made complex and is getting worse. Education used to mean knowing how to speak and write in a tongue everyone could understand - what is it now - it is a tool for personal differentiation - I'm an MBA, so I'm better than a normal graduate.....well Im also an MBA but I'm from an Ivy league school - so Im even better....look at the concepts man has invented - insurance - as a mitigant against an event happening, well what do we know about what is going to happen tomorrow - is it of our volition or is there a bigger force, no one knows for sure, but why take a risk....and the best part is there is soemthing called "re-insurance", for the insurer to save his own backside if what you betted against actually came true...!!!and so on.......where does it all end?....how many layers will we add onto this madness?.......what is the need for this - is it because of our ever increasing population that so desparately seek to differentiate ourselves.....? what then is an optimum number for the population and what methods are there to maintain that there and keep the specimen happy and contented ......I really think this is a vicious game created by this being called GOD to keep us busy with ourselves and as we worsen the knot into more balls of confusion, I soemtimes think there is someone up there watching and laughing as he/she sips his/her cuppa tea and enjoys the evening sun relaxing in their patio overlooking the stream.......
