Inertia of Motion, of Rest....but of Life?

The great Newton came up with the laws of motion...the first law called the Law of Intertia: a body in a state of rest or in uniform motion along a straight line will continue to be so, untill acted upon by an external unbalanced force.....(whew....I still remember it verbatim - some achievement eh?!, considering I've forgotten much of Julius Caesar, which was my all time great "by-hearting"
achievement...)

I wonder how Newton actually came up with this..? I mean I know the famous story of the apple knocking a hole in his head and he coming up with gravity and all that....so did he discover inertia by studying life and society around him?......look at life - his law is sooooo appropriate and applicable its not even funny - Change is Always deemed painful, there is always resistance and everyone wants to keep playing safe and doing the same things they always did.....isnt it ridiculous - I mean life itself is a journey from birth to death with even clear milestones, showing the progession from one stage to another - CHANGE written all over it - yet people choose constancy over change.....whole industries are wiped out because of their recalcitrant ways - the railroad industry, more recently the musci industry and their reaction to Napster, nations are erased from the map, people get left behind- the examples are just too many to recount or list here.......the one common thread in all this - the search, the yearning for stability....this innate, inbuilt search for rest.......why? there has to be a reason for something so obviiously illogical..i mean come on - the fundamental law of the universe is that everything is moving towards more chaos....the solar system, teh earth, sun, moon, stars everything is in constant motion - forget size - atoms - electrons, positrons, quarks, how small do you want to get - the common thread - continous change......restlesness IS the universe - YET we search for constancy?.......

Im not too much into hindu philosophy - though it is something that facinates me....have promised myself that I will go into it one day....ONE DAY...anyways, the thing that facinates me is this concept of nirvana....of freedom from the cycle of birth and death, of the soul being merged with God and true oneness being achieved....it is said that one who has attained Nirvana is not affected by the daily life - it is not that they know all the answers to our common questions, but that the questions dont matter..?? - what could this stage be?....one where you are at peace with everything???......I think Nirvana or this sense of complete oneness is also the stage of complete constancy and stability.......I believe as humans we are innately tuned towards attaining this stage - its just that we dont know how, so we look for constancy in everything, try holding onto to everything - money, relationships, materialism.....the trick might be to actually let go, not look for constancy at all - being one with change - move with change and change with change.......relative motion says when two bodies are moving in the same direction at the same pace - they appear to each other as motionless......that I think is THE STATE we call nirvana......one achieved through constant karma and renouncement...........

I keep thinking...........

The only thing that is constant is change - its the holy grail of life...you see it, you hear it, you experience it a thousand times everyday....and yet it's so difficult to practice it!

Good to see you back:)

"And in the end, it's not the years in your life that count. It's the life in your years" -Lincoln

Let me spin your thought this way. Imagine a razor whose two sides are change and constancy. Its on the edge of the razor true life can be experienced. I simply put it as this. The perfect state of happiness is on this line that divides us somewhere in the mind. Like radio tuning(brrr.brrr..voice..) we occasionally experience that (like eating a good chocolate, playing a song or something) and hence the compass of human kind is to achieve that state of synched up happiness (call it moksha or nirvana or some other label)..My $0.02
